Specializing in Blue Beauty Rat Snakes & the Medusa Art of Sheree Rehema.

"All of this stuff is about mankind trying to see himself in perspective. That's what literature is about, that's what art is. It's trying to figure out what you are and what you're doing here."

~ Jim Henson

I am the Lorax, I speak for the snakes!

Heh, just kidding! Kind of. :) My name is Sheree Rehema, and Blue Gorgon is my project and passion which combines my love of art, snakes, legend, and new positive perspectives on misunderstood creatures.

I've been an animal lover for as long as anyone in my family can remember. Always had to have pets (still do) and have felt most at home and peace in or observing nature. My favorite gifts as a child were animal encyclopedias with pictures, and in kindergarten I even told my teacher that I didn't need anymore schooling since I knew everything I needed to be a zookeeper. Kids. ;) All kinds of animals, I adored and still adore. It's just part of who I am.

My passion for animals never faded, but I developed a love of art and writing as well. I began drawing animals and mythical creatures and characters of stories I read or had written. When it came time to go to college, art school called and I got my Associates of Applied Science in Art and Animation. It was in art school I learned that I loved illustration most, and so I pursue that rather than animation. Medusas, Nagas, and other mystical beings rich in metaphor and meaning became an obsession of mine.

At some point after this, I realized that my amazing and wonderful fiancee was fine with letting me keep a snake and I got my first pet snake. I'd always loved them and wanted one, and I only fell more in love from there. It mystifies me how little so many people know or appreciate about these beautiful amazing creatures, and I'd like to help others understand them better however I can.

It wasn't until I got my first pair of Blue Beauty snakes though that Blue Gorgon was born. I'd already made friends in the snake community, who bred ball pythons and rat snakes, and I loved the idea, but I'd always figured "Just pets for me." But the idea of contributing to there being more domestically bred beauties out there and sharing the love was too much to resist. These two inspired me and focused all of my passions into one. Blue Gorgon.

I currently live in Colorado with my lovely fiancee, our collection of reptiles and mischievous house rabbits.

One of my goals is a series of Medusa portraits using different species of snake in a flattering way - portraying both "monsters" in the way that I see them. I want to reveal them as gorgeous, spellbinding, complex, inspiring, and make them more relatable and accessible, a new point of view.

Outside of the ongoing Medusa project, I include other legendary beings that inspire and interest me in my repertoire. Deities, Legends, and "Monsters" from all over the world are included. I also do character portraits, logos, tattoos... I enjoy doing a whole range of work, especially when fantasy, legend, or animal related.

More and more I find my spirituality seeping into my work. I'd originally planned to keep any religious or spiritual mention out of Blue Gorgon, I think it's unprofessional to advertise religion or politics on what is technically a business site. However, as an artist, I've learned that this is more or less impossible given my style and love of symbols and metaphor. Pieces like Ardhanari Naga - a portrait of my Ishtadeva- cannot help but reflect my own faith. Naturally, my spirituality inspires me but I want to make it clear that there is no religious agenda at Blue Gorgon. My only agenda is to spread the serpent love!

Blue Gorgon is more "me" than anything I've done before. It's my vehicle for contributing to the world for and through that which I love.

Info about snakes, snakes themselves, artwork, mythology, art, symbolism, advice, even just a nice atmosphere... whatever it is you're seeking, I sincerely hope you find it here at Blue Gorgon.

Namaste & Happy Herping!
